These nanosensors can be included in wearable tech or surgically implanted to keep tabs on a patient’s vitals in real time.
The distribution of drugs is another crucial use of nanotechnology in medicine. Drugs can be delivered to specific organs or cells with the help of nanoparticles. Because the medications are being given specifically to the sick cells, the unpleasant side effects of conventional chemotherapy are much reduced. Nanocarriers can be engineered to deliver medications in a sustained fashion, extending the benefits of treatment.
The field of medical imaging also benefits greatly from nanotechnology. Nanoparticles can function as contrast agents in diagnostic imaging procedures like MRI and CT scans. These nanoparticles improve the visibility of localised tissues or structures, which facilitates more precise illness diagnosis and follow-up.
Additionally, nanotechnology may help make vaccinations more efficient. It is possible to improve the efficacy of vaccinations by using nanoparticles to transport antigens to immune cells. The creation of vaccinations against viruses like influenza and HPV has benefited greatly from this strategy.
Nanotechnology is being investigated for use in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine in addition to its current applications in diagnostics, medication delivery, imaging, and vaccine development.
