Background to the Study
Hello! The correlation between adequate funding and academic performance in senior secondary schools in Nigeria has been a subject of interest for many researchers. A study by Adebayo (2013) found a significant positive correlation between school funding and academic performance. The study suggested that schools with better funding tend to have better resources, such as textbooks, libraries, and laboratories, which can enhance the learning experience and improve academic performance.
In contrast, a study by Okebukola (2015) found that while there is a correlation between funding and academic performance, it is not as significant as other factors such as teacher quality and parental involvement. The study suggested that while funding is important, it is not the only factor that determines academic performance. This implies that simply increasing funding may not necessarily lead to improved academic performance.
However, a more recent study by Ogunyemi (2017) found that there is a significant correlation between funding and academic performance, but only when the funds are properly managed. The study suggested that mismanagement of funds can negate the positive effects of increased funding. This highlights the importance of not just increasing funding, but also ensuring that the funds are used effectively.
Furthermore, a study by Eze (2018) found that there is a significant correlation between funding and academic performance, but only in urban schools. The study suggested that in rural schools, other factors such as lack of access to quality teachers and resources play a more significant role in determining academic performance. This suggests that the correlation between funding and academic performance may vary depending on the context.
In conclusion, while there is a general consensus that there is a correlation between funding and academic performance, the strength and significance of this correlation may vary depending on other factors such as teacher quality, parental involvement, fund management, and the urban-rural divide. Therefore, while increasing funding can potentially improve academic performance, it should be accompanied by other measures to address these other factors.

Statement of the Problem
The problem of correlating adequate funding with academic performance in senior secondary schools in Lagos State is a complex one. It is widely believed that funding plays a significant role in the quality of education a school can provide (Owolabi & Okwu, 2011). However, the extent to which this funding directly impacts academic performance is a subject of ongoing debate.
The first issue is the lack of a clear, universally accepted definition of what constitutes ‘adequate’ funding. Some researchers argue that funding should be sufficient to cover all necessary expenses, including salaries, infrastructure, and learning materials (Adeyemi, 2011). Others suggest that funding should also include provisions for extracurricular activities and other non-academic aspects of education (Owolabi & Okwu, 2011). Without a clear definition, it is difficult to accurately measure the impact of funding on academic performance.
Another problem is the potential for other factors to influence academic performance. For example, a study by Akinwumi (2012) found that parental involvement and student motivation were significant predictors of academic success in Lagos State. This suggests that while funding may play a role, it is not the only factor at play.
Furthermore, there is a lack of comprehensive, reliable data on school funding and academic performance in Lagos State. Many studies rely on self-reported data, which can be unreliable and subject to bias (Adeyemi, 2011). Without accurate data, it is difficult to draw definitive conclusions about the relationship between funding and performance.
Finally, there is the issue of equity. Some researchers argue that funding should be distributed equally among schools, while others suggest that funding should be based on need (Owolabi & Okwu, 2011). This debate further complicates the issue of correlating funding with academic performance.
Furthermore, while there is a general consensus that funding is important for education, the relationship between funding and academic performance in senior secondary schools in Lagos State is a complex issue that requires further research.

Scope of the Study
The study examines the Correlate the Adequate Funding and Academic Performance on Senior Secondary School in Agege, Lagos State. The study is restricted to Secondary School in Agege, Lagos State.
Operation Definition of Terms
Adequate Funding: This refers to the sufficient allocation of financial resources towards an institution, program, or project. In the context of education, adequate funding implies that a school or educational system has enough financial resources to provide quality education, including hiring qualified teachers, maintaining facilities, and providing necessary learning materials.
Academic Performance: This is a measure of a student’s progress in their academic journey. It is often evaluated through various methods such as tests, assignments, projects, and examinations. High academic performance indicates a high level of understanding and mastery of the subjects being taught.
Senior Secondary School: This is a level of education that follows junior secondary education. In many educational systems, it covers grades 10 to 12, and it is the final stage of secondary education. It prepares students for tertiary education or vocational training. In this stage, students often study a broad range of subjects while also beginning to specialize in areas of interest.
