CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

Time management and social media usage are two significant factors that have been found to influence the academic performance of senior secondary school students. A study conducted by Adebayo (2017) in Odeda Local Government, Ogun State, Nigeria, revealed that students who effectively manage their time tend to perform better academically. Social Media: Social Media refers to websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. It includes platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and many others.

Academic Performance: Academic performance refers to how students deal with their studies and how they cope with or accomplish different tasks given to them by their teachers. It is often measured by grades or GPA on a scale.

Senior Secondary School: Senior secondary school, often referred to as high school in some countries, is a type of school that provides secondary education, typically for students aged between 15 to 18 years old. It follows junior secondary school (middle school) and may be followed by higher education or vocational training.

Students: Students are individuals who are engaged in learning, typically within a school or educational institution. They actively seek knowledge and skills, often under the guidance of teachers or instructors.
