CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

  • Background to the Study

Religious centers, particularly churches and mosques, have been identified as significant contributors to noise pollution in Port Harcourt City Local Government. This is primarily due to the use of loudspeakers and public address systems during worship services, prayer sessions, and other religious activities (Adeyemi, 2018). The health implications of this problem cannot be overstated. Numerous studies have linked noise pollution to various health issues, including sleep disturbances, cardiovascular diseases, and cognitive impairment in children (Basner et al., 2014). Therefore, the noise pollution problem in Port Harcourt City poses a significant public health risk.

Ho: Noise pollution from religious centers has no significant impact on the residents of Port Harcourt City.

H1: Noise pollution from religious centers has significant impact on the residents of Port Harcourt City.

Noise Pollution: This refers to the harmful level of noises produced by human activities that disrupt the standard of living in the affected area. It is an environmental issue that adversely affects the mental and physical health of living beings.
