Evaluation of light pollution on both wildlife behaviour and human health

Light pollution, a kind of environmental deterioration that is often disregarded, has serious effects on the behaviour of wildlife and on human health. The purpose of this paper is to assess these effects, therefore highlighting the critical importance of developing efficient methods for controlling light pollution.

Many animal species have their daily routines and habits thrown off by light pollution. Night-active creatures like bats and insects are hit the worst. Migratory birds are particularly vulnerable to accidents with buildings due to the effects of artificial light. Because they use the moon to navigate to the ocean, sea turtles are particularly vulnerable to the effects of light pollution.

Light pollution is just as dangerous to people as it is to wildlife. Our natural sleep-wake cycles can be thrown off by prolonged exposure to artificial light, especially the blue light given off by electronic devices. Sleep problems, depression, obesity, and even cancer are all possible outcomes of this disturbance. In addition, the sight of stars can be diminished by light pollution, which can have an effect on our sense of well-being and our ability to feel a part of nature.

Despite these obstacles, a number of approaches exist for reducing the negative effects of artificial lighting. ‘Dark sky’ rules, motion sensor lighting, and encouraging the use of warm-colored lights are all viable options. It is also important to educate the public on the effects of light pollution.

In sum, light pollution has serious consequences for human and animal health. There is an urgent need to address this environmental crisis. Light pollution has negative impacts on human and animal health that can be mitigated via the use of proven mitigation techniques.
