Abstract

This study was carried out to evaluate improper waste disposal on public health in Nigeria in Pandogarirafi Local Government Area of Niger State. To achieve this ultimate goal, four research questions were stated to guide this study. The population for the study was people within the age bracket between 18-50 and above (male and female) in Igando Local Government Area of Lagos state which constitutes a total number of 4,640. The sample size comprised 464 individuals within the age bracket between 18-50 and above who reside in four communities in Pandogarirafi Local Government Area of Niger State. Data collection was done with a 20 item validated questionnaire. Descriptive survey method was used for the study. Data analysis was done using the descriptive statistics of percentages, frequency table, mean standard deviation. The result shows that there are methods of solid waste disposal in the study area; there are health effects of current methods of solid waste disposal practicing in PandogariRafi local government Area Niger state; there are health problems that arise as a result of improper          solid waste disposal in pandogari and there are visible measures that can be put in place to ameliorate the plight of inhabitants of pandogari. The study concluded with some recommendations that a prompt and regular waste disposal mechanism should be      put in place to take care of heavy duty waste generated in some areas of the town. That is, waste should be disposed at least twice a day at the flashpoints and maybe once a day        in a less waste prone area in order to keep the city clean.
