CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Technology has led a profound impact on the society from the changes instituted during the industrial revolutions to today’s information age, New Technology has been introduced to solve a problem or speed a process. The computer-based Billing and Sales forecasting system has made it possible to effectively combine the software and the hardware in sales recasting department to project sales volume into the future given Assumption about pricing and promotional efforts the sales system is a computer that has been programmed for the manager to input the result from various tests carried out. The data is analyzed to identify, opportunities for improvement. This advancement in technology has helped no small measures to manufacturers, to locate problems on billing and edict future sales based on the current information. The result can be a production in cost or a boost in production and sales.
- BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The company was incorporated on 4th March 1992, under the name ORANGE DRUGS NIGERAI LIMITED. The company’s interest now includes Industrial Ventures in Nigeria and Wholesaling in most West African Countries Ghana etc. The company is comprised of several hierarchies of managerial positions. This includes the executive managers, departmental managers, and sectional managers.
- STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The laps or loop holes in billing, maintaining a summary of all sales and forecasting of sales are quite obvious. Accordingly, the problem often encountered in this system includes;
- Difficulty in accessing results and reports from logbooks and files.
- High cost and unreliability in paper.
- Delay in reports dispatch to different production section.
- Inconsistent and slow decision making as a result of human frailly.
- PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
Computer is playing a leading and indispensable role in the technological advancement. This is based on its ability to provide or perform a lot of task based on this, the purpose of this project is to discourage time wasting in transaction and encourages an easier, effective and efficient means of business.
- SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The scope of this project is to design a complete system that enables a complete implementation of computer-based Billing and sales forecasting in ORANGE DRUGS NIGERIA LIMITED.
- LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
Lack of the relevant research materials offers the first constraints to the study. Apart from lack of materials, finance was also locked, and this most extensively, affected the research because most of the research materials are too expensive to obtain.
- DEFINITION OF TERMS
COMPUTER: This is an electronic device capable of accepting data as an input via the keyboard or other input device, process it via central processing Units and output the result via the output unit.
COMPUTER-BASED: It is the ideal of converting a manual process of solving problems to automated form of solving it.
SALES: It could be defined as an act or process of selling something.
FORECASTING: It is simply defining what you think will happen in the future based on the information that you have now.
SALES FORECASTING SYSTEM: It is a computer that has been programmed to accept the result from various test or sales carried out to predict what next sales may look like.
