ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to examine free education policy and quality secondary education in Lagos State, Nigeria using junior secondary schools in Ikeja, Lagos State as a case study. Specifically the study was carried out to determine whether free education influences the availability of qualified teachers in secondary schools in Lagos State, determine whether free education influences the availability of teaching materials  in secondary schools in Lagos State, determine whether free education influences the quality of teaching and learning activities in secondary schools in Lagos State, and identify the factors which facilitate and enhances free education for secondary schools. The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study. The population size comprise of teachers of some selected junior secondary schools in Ikeja, Lagos State. In determining the sample size, the researcher conveniently selected 59 respondents and 50 were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables. While the hypotheses was tested using Pearson correlation. The result of the findings reveals that free education influences the availability of qualified teachers in secondary schools in Lagos State.
