THE EFFECT OF INDISCIPLINE ON THE HEALTH STATUS OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN NIGERIA (A CASE STUDY OF EKITI STATE)

ABSTRACT

The effect of indiscipline on the health status of secondary school students is the focus of the study. The research reviewed different factors influencing interactive effect on their health status. The descriptive research design was used for the study. A total of 250 (two hundred and fifty) students of 125 males and 125 females was used for the study. Simple random technique was used for selecting (five) schools in Ado-Ekiti Local Government Area, Ekiti State, Nigeria. The instrument used to collect data for this study was questionnaire. The instrument was validated before it was subjected to reliability test of a test-retest method. Five research hypotheses were formulated for the study. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency count and percentage, inferential statistics of chi-square was later used to test the hypotheses. The result of the study revealed that indiscipline is widespread among secondary school teenagers in spite of the reported implication on their health status. It was concluded that optimal discipline and careful attitudes would promote sound and good health status of students. Finally, recommendations were made for organization of symposia, career-talks, health-talks and seminars more often by the school administrators, counsellor and the government to educate and orientate students.
